Technology has changed greatly from the beginning of time to the present. Back in the old days they used pigeons (birds) to carry messages from one person to another which wasn’t always very reliable. I can remember a time where handwritten letters were the way to communicate with others. Not only did you have to sit down and collect your thoughts to write down your message but you had to wait a long time for this to reach the other party. Cards from grandma and photos were eagerly awaited as countless days passed by, we surely had a load of patience back then.
Then a whole new phenomena occurred and that was digital communication. From our phones we were able to send brief messages to one another from a pager system. For those of you that had a pager in the 90’s you are well aware of that sound that would go off in public alerting of our bosses calling us back to work. Beep beep beep is the sound going off in restaurants, libraries, offices and in our homes all day long. It was quite annoying at times having to stop your vehicle to look for a public payphone to return the calls. This is how messages were delivered and at the time seemed like the greatest thing.
Today we live in a world where everything has to be delivered fast and effectively. Now you can deliver a message or photo in seconds with the touch of a button. Not only do we have smart phones, tablets, laptops, and computers, but we have the internet right at our fingertips to research and explore basically anything we want. This can be a blessing and a curse as you can imagine as we have lost the art of verbal communication in the process. Yes, it is wonderful that technology has evolved but don’t forget that there is nothing like one on one connections with people otherwise we will all ultimately become computers ourselves.
